Summertime is here and, like many people, you may have holidays planned. Unfortunately, summer is a prime time for home burglaries! Thieves are well aware that at some point during the summer, your home will be left unattended, and therefore vulnerable. We recently gave you advice on how to secure your Airbnb accommodation, and today, we will make sure you know the necessary steps to protect your own home from burglars and intruders this summer.
1. Ask somebody to visit your home regularly
It’s a good idea to ask a family member or neighbour to keep an eye on your house and come round to open and close the curtains, as well as put your bins out on bin day. This will make it appear as if you are home, reducing the risk of burglary or break in while you are away.
2. Keep your driveway in use
Empty driveways can attract attention and give away the fact that you’re on holiday. It would be good to ask neighbours or family to park in your driveway from time to time until you are back from your holiday.
3. Ask someone to house sit
Asking a trustworthy family member or friend to house-sit while you are away is a good alternative to leaving your home unattended. But, only do so if you trust the person to take proper care of your home. Otherwise, you could come back to a damaged or dirty home.
5. Prevent a mail-buildup
Use Royal Mail’s Keepsafe service. This service will allow you to have your mail kept by Royal Mail while you’re away. Mail piling up in your letterbox can be a telltale sign that you are away, and this could attract burglars.
6. Install a Home Intruder Alarm System and CCTV
Finally, Having CCTV cameras and/or a security alarm on your home is the best way to secure your home while you’re away this summer. RACAM can help ease your worries by installing a home intruder alarm before you go on holiday. Get in touch today to learn more.
